The Beginning – Cimicky Winery is located in Lyndoch, Barossa Valley, South Australia. It is believed that the Cimicky Estate land was first established by early German settlers in 1842.
In the next 80 years, the land, under the 2 titles of ‘Lyndoch Farmer’ and ‘Hundred of Barossa’ was diligently farmed as a fruit growing and dairy farm. With esteemed owners of the land such as Percival Norman Burge and Leslie Norman Ward. The advancement of the vineyards by the Cimicky Family in the early 1970’s earned international recognition.
In 1931, Blackmoor made a surprise win at the Grand National at Victoria Park, South Australia. The horse was stabled at the Estate. This is where the name of the Blackmoor Range originated.
Karl Cimicky developed an attachment to the Estate and in the early 1970’s purchased the land with the view to develop the Estate into a Vineyard and Winery. Building the beautiful Tuscan style cellar door that is now the Barossa’s Hidden Gem. In 1972 Karl Cimicky opened the doors to Karlsberg Wines for the first time.
After studying Oenology Charles returned from his travels overseas and took over running the family winery. Alongside his Father the name was changed to K. Cimicky and Son. This change was short lived as Charles and his wife Jennie moved onto the estate in their newly built Estate House. The name was finally changed to Cimicky wines. Today we follow in Charles footsteps and ideology as we carry on with the commitment of quality from vineyard to glass.
In 1995, Cimicky Wines Sauvignon Blanc was chosen by Elizabeth II, The Queen of England, to be served at The Royal Banquet at Buckingham Palace to celebrate the 50th World War II anniversary of the Allied Victory. This event had the largest number of guests since the Queen’s coronation in 1953. The wine was paired with Clarisse De Ouffs Princess, A quail egg salad.
When awarding Cimicky Wines our 2021 5-star review, James Halliday AM, an Australian wine writer and critic, is quoted as describing Cimicky Winery as “An outstanding winery capable of producing wines of very high quality.”
Nigel Sneyd has taken over as the master wine maker for Cimicky Wines. A renowned Master of Wine with over 40 years of experience in the global wine industry.
